Haleakalā at Sunrise, Maui – This is one of my bucket list experiences.
Happy Thursday! Can you believe it’s March 1 already? We have only about 3 months of school left for our youngest child, our daughter – she’ll be graduating from high school this year! It’s so surreal to imagine both my children as adults – or at least legal adults! It is an unbelievable time full of so many transitions.
This week has been crazy. Coming off of a fantastic workshop I attended a few weeks ago, I’ve been hard at work on figuring out more ways to provide more valuable travel info for you, whether travel tips or some really cool destination (like this week!) that I think you NEED to know about. Today, I wanted to tell you more about Hawaii’s Haleakalā National Park! This is absolutely on my own personal bucket list! The only thing I’m having trouble deciding is whether to go for the Sunrise or Sunset Tour!
Haleakalā means “house of the sun”, and is an inactive volcano situated on the Island of Maui. Hawaiian legend says the demigod Maui (sound familiar, Disney Fans?) lassoed the sun to make the days longer.
To see this spectacular natural vista, you can go up in the dark early morning (starry too sometimes!) hours and watch the sunrise, or go during the daytime, and watch at sunset as the sky changes colors above the clouds and gives way to the starry night.
I haven’t decided yet what I’ll do, but I think I might like to see both sunrise and sunset, and there is PLENTY to do there throughout the day.
