2021’s Top 3 Mega Cruise Lines

As voted by 8000 or so of Conde Nast Traveler’s Readers, these are the best mega ships currently sailing the high seas! Mega ships hold 4,000 or more guests in a sailing and are some of the best known ships. Here are the top 3 of this very HUGE category!

#3 MSC Cruises

Port Miami for MSC Cruises

Known for their international flair, cuisine, and clientele, MSC (which stands for Mediterranean Style Cruising) has built 5 of 15 of the larges ships in the world: MSC Grandiosa, MSC Bellissima, MSC Meraviglia, MSC Virtuosa, and MSC Seashore, all of which hold 5,300-6,300 guests in a sailing. The new MSC Seashore, which is a New York City–themed ship, is the newest of the 5, sets sail in November 2021. It has 7,500 sq feet of space for kids clubs, 140,000 sq ft of outdoors paces, and MSC has 4 more mega ships in line to be built ranging in guest capacity from 5,800 and 6,850 passengers.

#2 Royal Caribbean International

If you really are hesitant about cruising and like the idea of vacationing in a floating city, Royal Caribbean is the cruise line for you!

Since it has the 4 largest cruise ships in the world (Symphony of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, and Oasis of the Seas with about 6,700 at full capacity), given their size, these ships provide every amenity you can think of or imagine – and probably quite a few you wouldn’t even think of – such as waterparks, world-class musical productions, autonomous bars staffed by robots, and even double-decker suites with slides for the kids.

You’ll find these big ships sailing the Caribbean or Mediterranean throughout the year, but with so many much to do on board, you might not even want to visit your destinations off the ship. Just kidding – I’m sure you will. But who knows!?

#1 Norwegian Cruise Line

Known for its artistically decorated and colorful ships, Norwegian Cruise Line 1st broke into the mega ship category in 2010 with Norwegian Epic, which can carry just over 5,000 guests when fully booked, & Norwegian Cruise line has since introduced five others in the Breakaway & Breakaway-Plus classes.

The crowd on these ships, which mostly carry guests on itineraries in North America, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean, usually consists of families who love amenities like waterparks, virtual-reality gaming, & go-kart racing, but Norwegian’s newest ship, the Bliss, has a more mature atmosphere.

In November 2019, Norwegian launched the Encore, which is the most luxurious of its mega-ships.
