How to Avoid Crowded Airports and Security Lines

Traveling should be an exciting time to get away, not a stressful ordeal. But crowded airports and long security lines can quickly turn your dream trip into a nightmare. Fortunately, travel advisors are here to help you navigate these challenges and ensure a smooth, stress-free travel experience.

Why are Airports so Crowded & Annoying?

Airports become crowded and security lines lengthen due to several factors:

  • Peak Travel Seasons: Holidays and school vacations see an increase in travelers.
  • Popular Travel Times: Weekends and early mornings are extra busy.
  • Increased Security Measures: Heightened security can slow down the process.

Pre-Trip Planning

  • Strategic Flight Booking – There are absolutely peak days and times, so if you’re open to it, flying during off-peak hours and/or utilizing less busy airports can create a smoother experience.
  • Efficient Itinerary Planning – Ample layover times ensure you have plenty of time between flights to avoid rushing, but not too much. There are various ways to reduce your security wait times, including “skip the line” type programs like TSA Pre-Check or Global Entry (I recommend Global Entry) or choosing flights that typically experience less congestion.

Day of Travel Tips

  • Early Check-In – Saving time at the airport is easy with online check-in, which can typically be done on your smartphone, but if you need help, travel advisors like Easy Breezy Journeys are there to help their clients! It also helps to know when you should arrive at the airport to prevent the stress of potentially missing your flight. We always include your recommended arrival time in your pre-travel packet.
  • Security Line Navigation – I can’t say enough how much I recommend Global Entry for expediting your entry to the US airport as well as getting through customs quickly upon your return, but TSA Pre-Check is a great option if you are not someone who travels internationally often. I am more than happy to help you understand which program is right for you and how to apply. In addition, if you’re not familiar with airport security protocols, part of how I help my clients is knowing what to expect to help you create a seamless experience.

Airport Assistance

  • VIP Services and Lounges – Depending on the airport, destination, & what you have access to as a consumer, you may be able to access VIP lounges or even special services. One great example of a VIP service is Club Mobay, which I recommend to all my clients traveling to Jamaica. They whisk you through customs & security and you get a special lounge – it’s quite lovely!
  • Getting through Security – Global Entry and TSA Pre-Check are great services to get you through security faster, but there are other ways to make the process even lighter. Those include services such as airline priority boarding (based on airline reward or loyalty programs), Get Clear programs (in use at over 50 airports now), select airport”reserve a spot” programs, airline premium class security benefits (varies by airline), packing & dressing with travel & security in mind, knowing the rules of the airport, and even stalking wait times at your airport online.

Post-Arrival Support

  • Smooth Transfers & Luggage Handling – Setting up transfers ahead of time between the airport & your final destination is key to both handling your luggage effectively & getting there without the stress of trying to find a cab or other rideshare service.

Additional Benefits of Using a Travel Agent

  • Personalized Travel Advice – One of the standout benefits of working with a travel agent is getting a fully customized travel plan. We create personalized itineraries that cater specifically to your preferences and needs. We always with an in-depth discussion to understand your travel preferences, interests, and budget. Whether you’re looking for a quiet beach retreat, an adventurous mountain trek, or a cultural city tour, we know the best spots and hidden gems to suit you. Based on your input, we craft detailed itineraries that include everything from flights and accommodations to activities and dining options.
  • Special Requests – If you have any specific needs or preferences, such as dietary restrictions, mobility issues, or a desire for sustainable travel options, not only do we accommodate these requests, but we usually ask in advance whether you have any of these to ensure we can then work with hotels, airlines, and tour operators to ensure that your needs are met throughout your journey.
  • Peace of Mind – If your plans change or unexpected issues arise, you have a real human to call who is there to adjust your itinerary and handle any necessary rebookings. This flexibility ensures that your travel experience remains seamless and enjoyable, even when things don’t go as planned. Anything from a pandemic shutting down the industry to bad weather or illness, all sorts of situations have come up with clients of mine and it’s great to have someone in your corner!
